RE: Ameri-Camp Out of Business
This is a problem we all might encounter. Our RV MFG has gone out of business, so where do we obtain parts, or go to for the now denied warranty work? In todays times, even the so called stronger RV builders, may suddenly quit production and close. So if this happens, and you now have one of the so called orphan brands, you might expect a lower trade in value on your unit due to it's parts availability.
In other words, more MFG might close due to todays economy.

Do you purge gas tank on new car as well?
How about diesel truck?
I'd rather pay for changing my tire air from summer to winter one.
NEW tanks have to be purged prior to it's use as stated. Remember this is a sealed container, thus the air that is in the tank will dilute the propane, causing this weak flame. Other fuel tank are not a sealed air tight container, thus when you fill them, the fuel displaces the air in your tank, that is why you will sometimes hear a gurgling sound as the tank is filled. As for tires, you are using AIR to fill them, thus the air that is still in your tires, becomes pressurized and mixes with the incoming air.
NASCAR uses nitrogen in there tires, but these tires are also purged a few times when new thus trying to eliminating as much O2 in the tire.

Bought about 15 gallons some 4 plus year ago for 99 cents a gallon, at Menards. It was on clearance. So I should be set for some years to come.

There is always used units for sale, you just have to look for them. Some dealers rent units in the summer, and want to get rid of them in the Fall, as they will want new unit for next season. In the trailer industry, the 09 units came out around July of this year.

RE: Earliest for a spring Alcan Trip
When we went to Alaska in 1999, we took of from the Chicago area almost two weeks prior to Memorial Day. There were a lot of closed camp sites, but again there were enough open that we really had no problems. We even dry camped at some Filling stations, as there was enough room there, plus we fueled up there. As for fuel, we never had a problem, but we carried 10 extra gallons of diesel, just in case. The main camping season usually runs from Memorial Day, to Labor Day. After Labor Day the pace slows down up there, as some of your tourist shops close. We only went as far in as Anchorage and Fairbanks plus we camped for 1 week in Denali Nat Park, our intended destination. But on he way back home, we stopped off at Glacier Nat park, there the mountain pass was closed due to it having 80' of snow. You could hear them using explosives in there attempt to clear the roadway. The ranger stated that this road to the Sun sometimes is not cleared until July. But you should have no problems finding fuel.

RE: Parking trailer on a garden for the winter
If possible, place some paving blocks under the wheels that are going to be on the dirt. Ideally concrete or blacktop is preferred, but even 2x8 lumber would be better than just dirt. We also extend the rear jacks on our fiver, thus it takes some of the weight off the tires during storage.

Just winterized our fiver this past Sunday. As we might not use it this year again, but again we could? it took us less than 1/2 hr to do, and used less than 2 and 1/2 gallons of the pink stuff. So we are set. When Menard's had this pink stuff on sale some 4 years ago, for only 99 cents a gallon, We bought 15 gallons, so we have enough until 2012, as we already had a few extra gallons on hand. Now if the trailer will last this long?

Mexican Diesel Fuel?
While diesel fuel in Mexico is around the $2.20 a gallon mark, some things are important to remember, Mexican diesel fuels do not meet the US standard of 15 PPM. So if you have drive one of the newer diesel engines, designed to run on the 15 PPM fuels, your use of this fuel could clog your DPF, thus cost you mega bucks to have it replaced. Our older, 500 PPM diesel fuel, along with the 15 PPM fuels are still available in the US, but Mexico fuel is 300 PPM, still to high for those newer engines. So buyer beware.

This is a problem that could happen to OUR present TT, Fiver, Motor Home, ETC. Your MFG is out of business. So NO SPARE PARTS are available.. You might find some spare parts by hunting the internet, but if it was a custom part only made for that trailer, well you know the answer. As there are no laws governing the availability of spare parts in the trailer industry, as there is in the auto sector, it becomes a guessing game as to where your parts might come from.
The auto industry predicts that 600 of there dealers will close this year, or combine there business with another dealer. In our town a Buick dealer closed and merged with another dealer, And a Chevrolet dealer just closed. Both had been in business for over 75 years. So now these business will sit empty, along with a lot of people out of work. So the RV business has a lot of company when it comes to job cuts.

I would vote for the fiver, BUT the fivers hitch will cost more $$ than the TT hook up. So it depends upon what is included with each unit.

Depends upon when you are retiring. If within a year, not much will change in the fiver market, BUT if you are a few years away from pulling the plug, shop around, and take notes. Read reviews on trailer makes, and options. The big thing will be your tow vehicle. Your intended trailer size has a direct effect on your TV capacity. If looking at units over the 32' to 35' range you should consider a 3500 series TV, as it provides you with more options in your fivers selection.
Our fiver is over 10 years old, bought new, well maintained, thus we have no real need to purchase a newer one, plus it is paid for, along with the TV.
Take factory tours, go to RV shows, take notes, That is what we did, two years prior to my retirement.
In todays market there are good deals out there, BUT companies are also going out of the RV business.
So choose wisely grasshopper.

I think that they ( the older units) run on a vacuum principal. Mine quit due to a break in the vacuum line, thus the diaphragm could activate the sensor. Spliced the line and it works like a champ.
